Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to common questions about Nora.

What is Nora?

Nora is a business management platform built specifically for Canadian freelancers, contractors, and small businesses. It handles invoicing, expense tracking, receipt scanning, mileage logging, tax calculations (GST/HST/PST), and financial reports — all in one app.

Is Nora really free?

Yes. The free plan includes 5 invoices and 5 expenses per month, 1 invoice template, basic reports, and GST/HST/PST support. No credit card required. Upgrade to Pro ($12 CAD/mo) for unlimited everything.

How is Nora different from QuickBooks?

Nora is built in Canada, for Canadians. Canadian tax engine (GST/HST/PST by province), data stored in Canada, pricing in CAD, CRA-ready reports. No US-centric features you'll never use. One app instead of three.

Is my data stored in Canada?

Yes. All your business data is stored on Canadian-region servers. We comply with PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act).

Can I send invoices from my phone?

Yes. Nora works on any device via web browser. Native iOS and Android apps are launching in 2026 with offline support, receipt scanning, and GPS mileage tracking.

Does Nora handle GST/HST/PST?

Yes. Set your province and Nora automatically calculates the correct tax rates. Supports tax-inclusive and tax-exclusive pricing. Generate CRA-ready tax reports at year end.

Can I import bank statements?

Yes. Upload CSV or PDF bank statements. Nora parses transactions so you can categorize spending and reconcile with your logged expenses.

How does receipt scanning work?

Take a photo of any receipt. Our OCR technology reads the amount, date, and vendor automatically. The receipt is attached to your expense record. Works offline on mobile — syncs when you're back online.

Can I track mileage for CRA?

Yes. Log trips manually or use GPS tracking on mobile. Set your vehicle and per-km rate. Generate CRA-compliant mileage reports.

How do I cancel?

Go to Settings → Subscription → Cancel. No contracts, no cancellation fees. Your data stays accessible even after downgrading to the free plan.

Is there an API?

Not yet. We're focused on making the core product excellent first. API access is on our roadmap for late 2026.

Who built Nora?

Nora is built by a small team in Canada who got tired of paying US companies for tools that don't understand Canadian tax, Canadian provinces, or Canadian businesses.
